About Me

At 10 years old I received my first keyboard for Christmas. I spent a lot of time experimenting with sound in the beautiful way children do. One day my babysitter played Canon in D Major by Johann Pachelbel. I still can’t describe to this day how I felt when I first heard that song. I knew I had to learn it and immediately asked my parents for piano lessons. I have been playing and learning music ever since.

When I was 17 years old I decided to teach my little brother how to play the piano, and I fell in love with teaching. I quickly gathered a small handful of students which turned out to be the start of my life’s work

I have been teaching private piano lessons in my home for 25 years to students young and old. I have a love for music and I enjoy encouraging and sharing that love with my students. I have a passion for music education, and have spent hours in the classroom teaching beginning music classes to students with no musical background.

I have a BA in English Literature and a minor in Psychology with a focus on Child Development. I worked as a DSW with people with disabilities and brain injuries before settling down and starting a family. Since then I have completed my Early Childhood Education Diploma and have focused solely on my passion for music education through private teaching, and in coordination with my local elementary school.

Combining my education and my love for music, I wrote a children's book teaching early musical concepts, which can be read at home or in the classroom. Harmony Woods: Penny and Freddy Search High and Low teaches the difference between high and low sounds in music, while also introducing other musical terms. I plan on turning Harmony Woods into a series of books teaching other early musical concepts.
