Music Worksheets
During lessons I like to combine time on the piano with educational games, theory and fun music worksheets. For a free download click on each image below.
This Grandma’s House tool is my favourite way to teach keyboard literacy. My beginner students colour this worksheet to keep in their piano binders for reference. I always teach the note D first because it is the easiest key to find, and everyone loves dogs!
The group of two black keys is the Dog House. Inside the dog house is the dog (d), outside, to the left is his friend the cat (c), and on the roof of the Dog House is the eagle (e).
The group of three black keys is Grandma’s House. When you go to Grandma’s House you go in the front door (f), see grandma (g), she gives you an apple pie (a), and you go out the back door (b).
When they colour each picture, my students use the same colour to write the letter name associated with the picture on the key. We also use this story to play The Eraser Game.
Musicians use mnemonics to learn and memorize the note names of the lines and spaces on the staff. The mnemonics start on the bottom line or space and move up to the top line or space.
For the treble clef spaces I use: F A C E,
and for the treble clef lines: Every Good Burger Deserves Fries.
For the bass clef spaces I use: All Cats Eat Grass,
and the bass clef lines: Grizzly Bears Don’t Fly Airplanes.
I created these colouring pages to allow my students to fill in their notes names themselves, and colour the pictures. They keep them in their binders for reference.
I like my students to get creative with their learning so I created this worksheet to allow them to create their own mnemonics. Not only is it fun, silly, and giggle inducing, it also helps solidify the staff letter names in their heads! Make sure they draw pictures to accompany their new mnemonic!
Some of my favourite creations from my students include: Every Godzilla Battles Different Fights, Evan’s Gangster Brother Doesn’t Floss, Grandma Bakes Donuts For All, and Gorillas Ban Dinosaurs From America.
